Rory has worked in the area of employment law for over nine years, focusing primarily on Plaintiff side employment issues, with a specific emphasis on disability discrimination, sexual harassment, wrongful termination and wage and hour violations, with a focus on misclassification and prevailing wage issues.
Prior to his career in the law, Rory worked in non-profit organizations focusing on poverty, women’s rights and education in Nashville, Tennessee, and grew up witnessing first hand the impact that workplace discrimination can have on individuals and their families. Through his experience, Rory provides not only an understanding of the legal issues his clients face, but also the personal issues they are going through.
As a former (and current) small business owner, Rory understands the issues that arise in starting and maintaining a business. Through his understanding of the intricacies of employment law and his personal experience, Rory provides an informed and insightful perspective to business owners as they work through employment issues.
In addition to his experience with employment law, Rory was also one of the first attorneys to litigate the intersection between medical cannabis rights, land use laws and constitutional rights and has spoken about this area of the law.
Outside his litigation work, Rory is also on the Board of Directors of AIDS Emergency Fund, a supervising attorney with the Legal Aid Society – Employment Law Clinic, and a member of the legislative committee of the California Employment Lawyers Association, working with others to draft and pass legislation in support of workers in California.
